2022 → A stereoscopic allegory

This publication was for a group exhibition of the book ‘Flatland’. The narrator is a square that talks about his life in Flatland and what happens when other dimensions invade theirs. I saw a strong connection between this story and the allegory of the cave by Plato. In both stories, people only believe what they see in front of them while the actual world is outside of their perception. To symbolize this, I made stereoscopic images that some people can see but others don’t.
This publication is handstitched in a half-open binding, in which the text of the story of the square is on the inside of the pages, that symbolizes the cave. On the other hand, the 3D translation of the images is on the outside, signifying the outside world that the lower dimension cannot see.
The cover is embossed with polymer plates of the pattern of an autostereogram, which points out the higher dimensions some cannot perceive.
